Introducing Nina

I have found an artist who I will be basing my project on now.

She is a singer/songwriter and plays the acoustic guitar in a duet called 'Doeray'.
She performs at local venues to Bristol area and has a youtube channel that can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2C4dvHD4FGwf6F6VVqjrGA/feed

From looking at her channel, I have found she has covered a range of genres and artists and made them her own. She has performed covers from bands including Kings of leon as well as original tracks.  She prefers indie music with acoustic feels and strong vocals. This fits in well with my research as I can plan a performative video along with a storyline which will give me a lot of flexibility to get creative with.

The first screenshot is taken from one of their videos where they are performing live. The acoustic guitar with contrasting lighting effects gives spotlight focus on the two artists. This is a common technique used in acoustic and indie music so that the audience can focus on the interpretations that artist is delivering to the audience. In the second screenshot is a classic indie music set up: large technical kits surrounding a stage with backdrops advertising the band.

This is the live performance. If you listen to it in comparison with the actual original song, you can hear how they have put an upbeat spin on it where they show off their vocals.

Analysing survey results

I made a pie chart to help visualise the results of my survey. Indie is obviously the most popular genre.
I analysed the age groups from the results and found that for indie music, the most popular age is 17- 21.
The closest following genre is pop. The age range is slightly lower at 14-18. This is probably due to a major part of pop is boy bands that generally attract a younger audience, particularly in females. Boy bands are major in the music industry currently. They have the biggest fan bases and produce most merchandise.

Classical was least popular. Statistically looking at the results, this may be due to the fact that my survey included less people of a higher age 25-4, who was the main age of people who favoured classical music and therefore less people could vote for it.

The rock genre proved popular among 20-24 year olds. This is because rock is from an older generation before pop dominated the music industry.

Rap music was most popular over 18. Nobody under 18 said they favoured rap music; this may be because rap usually contains graphic and explicit language that younger people may not have access to or enjoy.

RnB was common in 16-20 mainly however did have a few older as it is a neutral, common genre for radio and TV with a mix of catchy songs and popular artist mixes.
